A Variation on a Theme

Just finished this hip little range of 'Upcycles' *love* these.  They have built on the one I started as a 'proto-type' in our last post...Our Upcycles are meant to be an environmental choice as in 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle' and a bit of *Fun*.

Also, some pretty little 'Vintage inspired' girl's skirts to bring joy to the wearer.  They are an 'Easy-wear' pull on style; 'Easy-care' hardwearing 100% cotton - iron or don't iron - the crinkled 100% cotton look can look quite crisp and fun; and all 100% Handmade : ) 

These sweet little 'dancing skirts' are a real favourite with girls and the 'not too fussy' styles make them quite wearable and manageable for littlies.  The simplistic style is in keeping with our 'Kids clothes for Kids' philosophy - nothing too fancy, no scaled down grown-ups clothes :)  Simple old fashion style and quality with a modern edge.

Certified Organic skirts

Here we are, the completed product of two handmade 100% certified organic skirts. Matching mamma's and daughters Easy-wear skirts, I have been wanting to do a matching set for ages - they look so cute together!

Each entire piece is 100% certified organic - fabric and thread. The Fabric is 'Harmoney Art' from Organic Fabric Online http://www.organicfabriconline.com.au/ and is very soft and wearable.

The organics are a little different to sew with than conventional threads. The organic thread has a textured quality and runs through the machines differently than non-organic cotton thread. It has been great to sew these up and experience the art of sewing with these beautiful and environmentally responsible fabrics.

I have enjoyed getting to know their characteristics and doing some more wares. Any one else had experience sewing with organic fabric and thread? Love to hear about it. Drop me a post...

The spotti-dotti twirling skirt

I love this little skirt - it's made out of a soft poly cotton, with bright coloured spots (or is that dots) in pink and red hues. It is created as a full circle skirt, so perfect twirling capabilities for little girls who love to twirl, and don't they all.

My girls love this skirt - in fact the youngest has two it's such a fave, she got sick of waiting for it to come out of the wash!

I added a sweet little 'lettuce leaf' edging on the hem, so it waves and ruffles. The elasticized waistband is adjustable as the little one grows. I aim to make the skirts (clothes) so kids get at least two seasons wear out of them...It looks pretty dressed up in vintage wears, or as a modern skirt...dressy or casual...A big thanks to the ladies at ODDZanENDZ of Noosa (fabric shop) for their continuing generous advice on technique : - ). They are very accomplished sewers and provide a range of dressmaking services as well as fabric sales.
